HEY UBC ARTS!
I’m Khushi Nanda, running for VP Finance of the Arts Undergraduate Society (AUS). I have extensive experience with AUS finances. I served as Reimbursement Director for a year, then moved into the Associate VP Finance role, and was elected as Interim VP Finance in Council two months ago. I also serve as Ocra Braeburn House President, work in AMS Events as an Associate, and was an Arts Orientation Leader this year.
During my tenure, I worked with the VP Finance and the Reimbursement Director to create a detailed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for reimbursements, eliminating delays caused by unclear processes. I collaborated with the AUS team to increase club funding by $5,000 (raising it from $15,000 to $20,000) and launched AUS Assist, a support program to provide resources and funding to AUS-affiliated clubs.
IF RE-ELECTED
I WILL
Restore Club Funding to $30,000
Club funding was cut from $30,000 to $15,000 two years ago and gradually raised to $20,000. I will restore it to $30,000, with applications open each term.
AUS has sufficient funds to sustain this level of support without creating a deficit. My past budget work confirms that this is feasible.
Independent Textbook Reimbursement Program
AUS increased the textbook reimbursement budget from $1,000 to $10,000 last year, and the popularity of the program proved its importance.
Integrating it into the AMS Textbook Broke program has caused delays. I will relaunch an AUS-only textbook reimbursement system to process claims faster.
AUS will still provide $2,000 to AMS Textbook Broke, maintaining our position as the highest-contributing society to that initiative.
Increased Funding for the First Year Committee (FYC)
FYC consistently produces successful events with minimal resources. They have proven their capacity to engage first-year students and raise AUS’s profile.
I will increase FYC’s budget and push for more joint events with other AUS portfolios to maximize impact.
Strengthen Collaborations for Finance Workshops
As AVP Finance, I helped run workshops on financial literacy and budget management. I plan to expand these by collaborating with the AMS Finance Team and relevant AUS clubs.
Cross-promotion will draw a larger audience and provide robust financial education tools for students.
Expand AUS Assist
I co-led the development of AUS Assist, which offers targeted funding, logistical support, and AUS-branded merchandise to clubs.
Some knowledge gaps arose during leadership transitions. As VP Finance, I will standardize processes, ensure clubs know how to access these resources, and track outcomes to evaluate success.
I have first-hand experience with all AUS financial processes, and I will continue streamlining them to ensure transparency and accountability. I am committed to supporting clubs, enhancing reimbursements, and promoting financial literacy. I look forward to earning your trust and your vote for VP Finance.
